WEI YING'S PORTFOLIO
An array of Architectural draftings, drawings and sketches.
Design Communication
Project 1A: On-site Sketching
For the first project, we are required to explore and engage with the site by experiencing it through a spatial sequence of our choice. While moving in sequence, I had recorded my observations and perception of the spaces and the human habitation of these spaces through free-hand sketches. The sketches consisted of both interior and exterior spaces.
I had learned to identify and understand the notion of space in architecture, developed skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception and sketching as a mode of communication.
Project 1B: 4 Tonal Values
In order to develop skills in controlling tonal & depth values and various techniques of hatching through different medium, I have produced four variations (hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and scribbling) of tonal value sketches based on a selected object for project 1b.
Medium used:
Pencils, 2B-6B
Artline ink pens
Colour Pencils
Project 2A: Orthographic Projections-Plans, Sections & Elevations
In project 2A, we begin to delve into deeper knowledge and understanding of architectural drafting techniques. The given subject for this orthographic drawing project was the Eames House a.k.a. Case Study House #8 by Charles and Ray Eames, situated in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Based on the researches and pictures I had done and observed, I had constructed the plans, sections and elevations of the case study house.
By the end of this project, I am able to demonstrate drafting skills in modern and traditional methods of architectural drawing, record and present clear and legible architectural information manually and identify & apply architectural conventions and symbols. Moreover, I learned to control the line weight, line types, line quality and hand lettering.
Project 2B: Axonometric Projection
To have a better understanding on Eames House, I had produced an exploded axonometry that showed the structure, walls and claddings of the house.
I am able to learn to produce legible architectural drawings, generate an axonometric projection and express spatial ideas and architectural detail in 3D way.
Project 2C: Perspectives
I had understood how to generate and apply perspective drawings into the design process and presentation.
